Mstislav Rostropovich, 1927--2007
Maestro Rostropovich died last night from intestinal cancer. I was fortunate to play under his baton twice and attend one of his masterclasses.Do svidaniya, maestro!

You were fortunate indeed. He was a political activist of the best sort - the kind who really believe in their cause!
What a great honor you experienced. He will be missed. His recordings of the Bach Suites are a personal favorite.
